An independent Scotland could become the richest country on earth. Iām not joking. It has all the necessary ingredients. Let me explain.
Each year the World Bank, the IMF and the CIA each independently publish a list of the richest countries in the world – as measured by GDP per capita at purchasing power parity.
The UK sits at a rather disappointing 21st, but topping those rankings you have the likes of Qatar, Luxembourg, Singapore, Brunei, Norway and Switzerland.
I don’t really care if we are, or are not, the richest country in the world or indeed how we compare with any other country. How we compare to another is not the measure of success. I care that we can manage what we have to the benefit of all those resident in my much loved homeland and that we create a government with sustained and continually improved, compassionate values, which protect, first and foremost, the most vulnerable: an old sailor like code of ladies and children š but men if they happen to be more vulnerable.
