This is a pilot I made for Radio 4 in the early 00s. I happened to dig it up the other day and I think it’s a shame they overlooked it as it had loads of potential in a Hogarthian kind of way. Bear in mind it came before Down The Line (which is brilliant BTW) …

I made the pilot in 2001 with Brendon Connelly, Carmel Howard and Jon Samuel.  The idea was that to re-create those wierd and wonderful converstions that you overhear. If I had heard the conversation in a pub or on the back of a bus, we went to the pub or got on the back of a bus to record the scene. Guerilla Radio. Rather than a sketch show, it was a scene show. Observational, highly naturalistic audio portraits, I think was the sort of phrase we used in the proposal.
